COMPLEJO ARQUEOLOGICO DE SILLUSTANI:
Located 34 km from the city of Puno, on the peninsula of the Umayo lagoon in this place is the cemetery that houses the most mysterious and impressive tombs or chullpas with shapes of inverted and square cones. The most outstanding funerary tower is known as the Chullpa del Lagarto, which represents one of the main attractions of Sillustani. This tower was built with square stones, which fit perfectly. The Sillustani chullpas built in the times of the Colla and Inca cultures. The story goes that before being placed in the chullpas, the corpses were mummified in a fetal position, along with the bodies their most valuable belongings were placed, such as gold and silver objects, ceramic utensils and food. "This custom (was followed) because the beliefs said that after death they would resurrect in another place where they had to eat and drink, as they did before they died."
The Umayo lagoon is an impressive mirror of water that reflects the blue sky and white clouds of Puno. This lagoon houses a beautiful island that is a small National Reserve for the protection of vicuñas.
Itinerary
At 1:50 p.m. passengers are picked up from their hotel in the center of the city of Puno.
At 2:15 p.m. The bus leaves for the archaeological complex of Sillustani, where we will arrive in 45 minutes, then we will start a walk to the most important necropolises of the Colla and Inca times; where the advanced architecture and ancestral engineering shown in the chullpas can be appreciated, we will enjoy the positive energy of this sacred place, the visit time is approximately two hours.
At 5:00 pm. the bus returns to the city of Puno; On the way there will be a brief stop at a small farm to appreciate the customs, the local people still live in typical houses built with stones, mud and straw. You will also be able to closely observe South American camelids such as llamas, alpacas and you will have the opportunity to take pictures.
At 6:00 pm. Arrival to the city of Puno and transfer to your hotel in the center of the city.
